David Holdsworth

I am a journalist who spent more than 30 years at the BBC as a producer and Editor and where I led the 40 teams who make programmes for local and regional audiences across England. It is this background which drives my interest and passion for the work of Parallel Histories and why I feel privileged to be the Chair of Trustees.
At BBC News we strived for impartiality and giving audiences a wide but balanced range of perspectives and opinion. The growth of social media means we need to do more to help young people to learn to look at the world from different points of view, which is why the Parallel Histories mission is so important.
I chair several juries for the Royal Television Society in their annual TV Journalism Awards and I am a former member of the BBC’s News Board. At the BBC I led the work to set up the Local Democracy scheme which funds journalists to scrutinise local government for all news outlets both BBC and commercial.
I have been involved in the charity sector for a number of years and I also support an organisation that gives young people from rural areas the opportunity to grow and develop by making digital media.
